Every CA student is expected to master the art of number crunching so that he is equipped with the potential to handle any kind of complex problems, both in exams and his professional career thereafter.
At the student level, ratios and percentages often frustrates the learning progress, especially in the following areas:
- final accounts
- consignment accounts
- branch and departmental accounts
- hire-purchase accounts, and so on.
The necessity of learning fundamental rules of calculating the rate of profit from "on cost" to "on sale" and vice versa cannot be over emphasized in as much as the use of such rates is called for quite often while solving problems in the above areas.
It is strongly advised to learn the technique of such calculation and work until it becomes a second nature
Though ratios and these basic numbers may sound simple, a slight deviation from the fundamentals could prove fatal. Therefore it is strongly recommended that students keep their fundamentals strong.
