ICAI sees huge shortage of practising professionals

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is trying hard to get more professionals into practise. “At present more than 80 per cent of chartered accountants are employed with some company or the other. Very few opt to take up practice. But the opportunities are opening up and we foresee a huge shortage of practising professionals,” Mr G. Ramasamy, Vice-President, ICAI said. To get more candidates take up the CA programme, the institute is planning to conduct the CPT (Common Proficiency Test) exam every month. “It will be an online exam. The candidates can go to the respective centre and do the exam and get the result almost immediately. Once he/she clears the CPT exam, they can register for article-ship and take up the intermediate and final exams.' This will enable more candidates to take the CA course. The institute has tied up with Bharathiar University here to offer a programme for students. The institute is also gearing up to reorient the examination system to test the application skills of the students. “CA students have always been good in theory. But there is huge demand for intelligent candidates and those capable of applying their knowledge efficiently. We have therefore planned to reorient the current examination system and correct the balance by emphasising more on practical application skills,” he said. Further, to hone the skills and mould them into excellent professionals, the institute is planning to put in place regular classroom teaching at all important places under the aegis of Board of Studies. These classes would provide complete guidance and enable personal interaction between teachers and students. Applicability skills would be a thrust area and the study material revised accordingly

Purvi .....Thanks fo sharing this info..........

One suggestion, my view is that  these type of information gains more attention if the source link is provided. Otherwise, there is doubt as to the authenticty. Also, with the source it clarifies that the statement or news is revealed or said by which authority.

Thsi is my personal view only...I hope you won't take it otherwise..........

Thanks for updating and sharing...............Your contributions always gives goods messages........keep on sharing..........

My views are that, in case it is going to be applicable then, Conducting CPT monthly is not a problem, but then the course contents should be such that the student should have sufficient knowledge to clear. It should not be like that anyone joins and study for a month or so and clear the exam. Also there sholud be restriction on timing where in case student fails to clear it, then the next exam should be after a gap of 3 months or some defined period .......so that students will not take CPT lightly since it will be repated every month.

Further, the existing problem that PCAs are not interested in providing articleship to students clearing CPT after 12th with no graduation should also be take into consideration..........If  PCAs are  not intersted then there is no use of its implementation if students finds problem in finding articleship.

These are my personal views based on my knowledge sharing on CCI and my contacts.

Regards

The matter was discussed in a meeting at Mumbai also on 05 03 2010 where so many past presidents of the Institute were present.

Earning is not a problem for a chartered accountant if he has really done well during his articleship.

But; unfortunately many join CA just to qualify and find a suitable job which is really unsuitable to the profession.

No doctor says that I want to join a good hospital. Everyone wish to establish his own  clinic or hospital.

Initially; it may be difficult but difficulties pays in future.

At many of the forums; I have written that there is a shortage of experienced persons even at big chartered accountancy firm.

Some students raise the question whether I would be selected if I appear before big 4. My instant answer is No. Because those students are not confident about their knowledge; specially practical knowledge.

I must say, if  the ATTITUDE TOWARDS PROFESSION IS ON RIGHT TRACK then sky is not the limit.

hey  friend,

i wan to go for practice. but many CA s said dat its tough to go fr practice. also i feel that THE ICAI dont provide ne help to new aspirants  to start  a practice. bt dey provide help in job by organising campusing.so i thnik icai should extend helping hands to the newcomers in practice.the scope is limited as i know.

its too mch hard to penetrate into. though, i hav intention to go for practice but i hesitating a lottt. wat to do?????????//

Thanx a ton Purvi for providing regular and good updates. ur contribution is commendable to this club.

Best Wishes

Prasad R

If ICAI is continuously reducing results ratio of passing then situation will be such that either you raise the results or just allow a student to go for articleship without any conditions like clearing a group for commencement of articleship. As it would result in around 23 -24 years for a student to complete articleship and how can he try to take risk of Practise.

And also what would happen to such a person if he does not get proper rewards in  Practise.

Thats why most of the CAs prefer to Join Idustry or other service.

ICAI is itself to be  blamed for the mind set of the CAs going for Industry.

Take example of PE-II students as they have to clear it then 3 years of articleship

when he will clear final

when he will settle

and when he will get married.

Thats why people prefer to join industry rather than going for practise.

THNAKS FOR POSTING THIS NEWS PURVI MADAM, DOING GREAT WORK, KEEP POSTING LIKE THIS POSTING.

Nice one Purvi....

I support both practice and JOb... but practically if we see, its difficult to set up practice and it takes around 2-3 years to get good and permanents client.... So income is not certain for the coming years...

Also its like doctors... patient will go to family doctor only first.. and will go to other clinics as per their advice...

So its difficult tht the client will go for the new CA in market by leaving his Old CA...

It only works when we have family CA firm already set up..

THNAKS FOR POSTING THIS NEWS PURVI MADAM, DOING GREAT WORK, KEEP POSTING LIKE THIS POSTING.

i think its not easy to start your own practice. ICAI should sincere efforts to help upcoming CAs to take up practise instead of doing job.

thanx purvi...gud work....

thanks for sharing the latest info.....

Dear Purvi and other members,

From where you got this info.?

In the above highlighted paragraph, they are talking about articleship immediately after CPT. why they keep on changing scheme ? Presently articleship is allowed only after clearing IPCC group1. One more question, can a CA practise as part time and work in an industry?
