ICAI moves to give CAs MBA status

hi frnds,

Chartered accountants are hankering for a bigger role in the business. Not happy with their status as essentially number crunchers, CAs are looking for a position akin to their counterparts who wield management degrees. To activate this transition, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) plans to spend Rs 250 crore in setting up 11 centres of excellence (CoE) across India in the next eight years.

Work has already began on its first centre in Hyderabad with a planned investment of Rs 10 crore, which shall be operational next year. Two centres will follow in Delhi and Mumbai over the next two years. “CAs have more knowledge than MBAs yet they lag in terms of salary and position. This has to change,” said ICAI president Sunil Talati.

CoE will offer a PG qualification exclusively for CAs and will draw its faculty from the premier management institutes such as ISB and IIMs. It will focus on improving communication and marketing skills of CAs and help them build personality traits required to become a team leader. Earlier, Sandip Bhandare, chairman, Western India Regional Council of ICAI, had said: “CAs are poor in marketing themselves, or negotiating their position. That’s where an MBA scores.” CoE will focus on improving presentation skills, including command over English and body language.

While the average starting salary of a CA ranges from Rs 10-12 lakh per annum, at par with what IIM students are offered, there’s a feeling within the CA fraternity that accountants tend to lose out to MBAs in the long run.

Do any one have more info on this.if so plz let me also know  coz i am very curious about this and i want to do MBA.

Regards,

Tarun Kumar

CA can not be eqivalent with MBA. it will be one FAILED attempt of ICAI. the Investment will be waste.
Such a negative thinking about a Chartered Accountant can not be resisted. You Mr. costexcellence if u r a chartered accountant then u should be proud of the institute & course curriculum and if u r a MBA then I challange you on any of the subjects which is common to both the institute.
Dont compare CA and MBA. CA in the piller for the growth of Indian Economy and policy formation.
hey frnds coooool,

u mr. cost excellence should get out of this site ! CAs are the most trusted professionals ! a CA can smash an mba in knowledge . MBA can only speak and speak ,they have no knowledge . MBAs are ass holes.................
one major capturing point in the both if one said as an mba then immediate question comes from the other end that is whcih university and from which college and what is the curruculum whereas if one say as a chartered accountant it is the deeming reality goes to the other end it is with full of stuff
Mr costexcellence I challange to your institute to start the CA course for you MBA people. If you read the CA course.....you will get the answere of the knowledge debt abt. the BMA. I sure you all people got dump in the CA exams.....
