I am livid. How come you are insipid?

Hi guys, I am a CA passed out in 1980 and in active practice. I became so livid when I came across a recent announcement in the ICAI website about the eleventh hour change in the exam structure applicable for Nov 2009. I wrote to the Prez and his council collegues and as expected of them, NONE replied yet. I am reproducing my mail:

Dear Mr President,

I am appalled to see the "important announcement"  in the Institute's website  regarding the Nov 2009 examination - about the Examination Committee having taken some important decisions in respect of (a) syllabus change and (b) pattern change.

I do not see how it is even possible for the ICAI to take such far reaching decisions regarding the examination which is slated just about amonth away, when the students are almost in the final phase of their preparations. How is it possible for the students to adapt to such changes, especially on the issue of every question being compulsory in nature?

Is the committee out of its mind? Or just because the committee thinks that after all they are dealing with CA students, who cannot organise themselves, like students pursuing other professional courses like medicine, engineering or law,  for any form of protest against such blatantly unilateral, legally untenable decisions taken with abject non-application of mind? What kind of temerity is this to announce it on Oct 1st for the Nov examination and brazenly adding that "Students may note that the first paragraph of this announcement is in addition to the announcement already published in the October, 2009 issue of the students’ newsletter – The Chartered Accountant Student".

No other professional educational institution, which runs predominantly on students' money would attempt to do something like this. And what a funny preamble? "CA course being a professional course, practical training is an essential part..." We didn't know this all these years and neither did the students! If giving 'practical training' any importance, why does not the ICAI think of introducing something like 'internal assessment' by the principals?

When such 'wisdom' has suddenly dawned on the council or the committee, as the case may be, I will ask you all only one question. Is any one of you prepared to take the examination once again even under the easier norms that were prevailing when all of you wrote the examinations?

My indignation on the committee's insensitivity is so much that I do not wish to make any appeals. Therefore I demand that such ridiculous, mindless changes be not done in the eleventh hour. If at all you want to make any changes, prepare the students well in advance and take the student community in to confidence and do them.

I hope correct wisdom prevails and the ICAI corrects its course, well in time.

Regards

Prabhakar

Unless you guys raise your voice in protest such mindless madnesses will continue to be unleashed on to you by the powers that be. Please at least urge your coaching class teachers who you think to be close to you to raise appropriate din.

The norms for Tranfer also needs to be changed.

There are Principals who do not provide adequate Training as a result the students need transfer. The ICAI should think from the point of view of students also. The Dummy cannot be stopped by not allowing to take transfer.

wow!!! I am happy now. I can see a student friendly member!!! Very rare to see. And it requires real guts to send letter like this to ICAI. Thanks mr prabakar.

Hi Mr Aldrine,

I dont mind going on a sworn affidavit to the effect that no one in my family is doing CA. My son is a Computer engineer. Even among my nephews and nieces, there is no CA student. However, I do consider my articled assistants as my children! I have always been an impassioned advocate for things I feel right and against things I don't.  In the past I have written against ICAI on various things like the ridiculous limits on tax audit assignments, the nonsensical manner in which AS-15 has been made manadatory and the mindless going ahead with IFRS etc.  My comments, though may seem acerbic, have hardly moved anyone in the ICAI. Perhaps they are allunder medical advice to avoid salt in diet!

i thank caclubindia site for providing ca student atleast a platform to put their feelings in this hours of crises because there is no forum of icai to here student perview.the policies of ca institute are always been against student as if student are there enemy.we are also some ones son someones brother all our near ones wants us to become successsful in life.but this kind of attitude toward student is not ethicle on just one ground that ca is a professional course.my great thank to mr prabhakar for at least coming out with a view against icai other wise most of ca are always afread of icai .

i think the issue relating to current announcement must be sent govt. not icai because if icai was to here then i doubt that this announcement had even come.

i urge all ca student to support    mr prabhakar.

Dear Sir,

I am actually glad to see a member who sees the insanity and chaos from the student's perspective.

Personally, I think the prez' decision to cut the pass percentage is disappointing, because he has conveniently overlooked the number of CA candidates as against his period as a student. Is he trying to take CA back to the stone age? CA T N Manoharan was the one who thought of CPT as a tool to increase the inflow of students in to the course, now is the president trying to build a dam/bund around the students?

Tomorrow, when because of shortage of CAs, Company secretaries and Cost&Mgt Accountants will be allowed by legislature to do statutory audits and attest functions of our profession, and when lawyers are allowed to conduct tax audits, we will know whom to thank.

My thanks in advance to Mr. UPA.

But my sincere thanks to Prabhakar Sir.

Sir, like you, when we are the anvil we shall bear, and when we are the hammer, we shall strike.

According to me We(Students) should have their own Union.

Dear Sir,

Also make appeal against restriction on transfer.

Yes we need representation in student matters - if not a union to protect our interests.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH SIR FOR YOUR VIEWS, AS A STUDENT OF CA FINAL WHAT CAN WE DO TO PROTEST THESE KIND OF RIDICULAS DECESIONS

This announcement really comes as a shock, more so when the November 2009 is the last Final examination under the old sylllabus. Hope that this does not adversely affect the results. Hope the Institute allows sufficient time for students to prepare for such changes.

"Students may note that the first paragraph of this announcement is in addition to the announcement already published in the October, 2009 issue of the students’ newsletter – The Chartered Accountant Student".

Could anyone please provide help on how to get the Student's Newsletter on the CA website.....please provide the link.

I  will be appearing in Nov,09

At least someone is thinking, especially such an experienced Member of ICAI.

Cudos to you Sir, for your initiative in this regard, we are forwarding your mail to gather more support.

I honestly feel People like you who are constructive and pragmatic their approach shoulb be the President of the Institute who have the courage to oppose the wrong instead of some people who are totally devoted towards Student BASHING .
