No, code is only for classification of Goods here rule are made for showimg HSN codes in Invoice

Actually I seen a government notification mentioned HSN/SAC codes digits divided by turnover.

if preceeding financial year Turnover is less then or equal to 1.5 cr then thier is no need to mention HSN codes on Invoice

But above 5 crore turnover only 4 digit code will be used
