Can a person pay rent to his Father and claim HRA for a property that is registered on his late Grandfather name .
Grandfather has 5 legal heirs and he had no will.

Hi anu, check your inbox.
It's possible.

All you need is required documents to claim HRA deduction u/s 10(13A) i.e. rent agreement with your father or rent receipt for whatever rent paid by you. Legality of your father over ownership of particular property is irrelevant as far as HRA deduction is concerned.

Regards,

Manoj

But there are some complications. You need to update the recipients tax file.
