HRA tax exemption queries

Hi All,

I live in  Noida and my wife is also working. I do work from home so every month I pay the rent an amount of 20K to my mother who lives in my hometown(Different state) and I also do works from there many times.

we are living in noida on rental property and my wife pays the rent from her salary. Can we both claim the HRA benefits as she pays the rent for Noida house and I pays to my mother.

My mother is housewife and my father will be retried soon in 1-2 month.

Quick Summary
This discussion explores the possibility of claiming House Rent Allowance (HRA) tax benefits when paying rent to a parent in a different city while also renting a property in your current location. The consensus is that your wife can likely claim HRA as she pays rent for your Noida residence. For your claim, it's less certain and may depend on proving the rental arrangement, especially if you don't receive an HRA component in your salary. You might need to explore Section 80GG if HRA isn't part of your pay.

Your wife surely gets HRA deduction. For you, it is uncertain as you might need to prove.
To claim HRA in return one must have to receive HRA component in salary then he/she have to calculate HRA Exemption u/s 10(13A). If not receiving HRA then section 80GG should entertain. Plz check and understand both section properly then only you can take appropriate tax Exemption u/s 10.
