HRA exemption in case of multiple rented accomodations

Tax queries 403 views 5 replies

Hi, My office in city X has a hybrid work policy, so I work from city X for two days and reside in city Y for the rest of the five days. I have rented accommodations in both cities. Can I claim HRA for city Y even though my office is in city X?

Thanks

No. Consider it for only city X,

The rent in city Y is higher than in city X. If possible I would like to claim for city Y only.

Considering WFH conditions administered by employer, it should be accepted by the employer.

Can I claim the HRA exemption directly in the ITR if it is not accepted by the employer?

Yes, there is an option for that, but practically little difficult to convince ITD.
