Quick Summary
This discussion clarifies whether an individual employed and working in Kerala, but also paying rent in Mumbai, can claim HRA exemption for the Mumbai rent. The consensus is that HRA exemption can only be claimed for the rent paid at the place of your actual residence and work. While one suggestion offers a workaround for tax savings by using the higher rent (potentially Mumbai's) if working from home, the general rule remains that only rent paid where you reside and work is eligible for HRA exemption.

No, he can't.
Thankyou

no, he cannot claim exemption of HRA of rent paid in Mumbai even if his working in Kerala

Thankyou
No tax benefit on payment of Mumbai Rent
Thankyou
Welcome.... My pleasure.....
No he can't

Hii. In case if he is doing work from home, suggest him to use Rent of Mumbai or Kerala, whichever is higher. Probably Mumbai's should be higher as he is Sharing kerala's rent with his friends. I know for HRA, rent of property where we stay only claimable. This isn't exactly as per books but if saving tax is priority, it works

Thankyou
