To reinstate an asset retirement in Oracle Assets, the steps depend on the current status of the retirement transaction.

Steps to Reinstate an Asset Retirement

  1. Navigate to the Asset Workbench:

    • Go to Assets > Asset Workbench.

    • Query the specific asset (searching by the Asset Number or Tag Number is the most efficient method).

  2. Access Retirement Details:

    • Once the asset is selected, click the Retirements button.

  3. Identify the Transaction Status:

    • Locate the specific retirement transaction you wish to reverse.

    • If the status is "PENDING": Select the Undo Retirement button. The system will delete the pending retirement transaction.

    • If the status is "PROCESSED": Select the Reinstate button. This will create a reinstatement transaction.

  4. Finalize the Process:

    • After reinstating a PROCESSED retirement, you must run the Calculate Gains and Losses program (or run the Depreciation process) to update the asset's status and finalize the accounting entries.

Important Restrictions & Considerations

  • Fiscal Year Limitation: You can generally only reinstate assets retired within the current fiscal year. Assets retired in previous fiscal years typically cannot be reinstated.

  • Partial Retirements: For assets with multiple partial retirements, you are usually restricted to reinstating only the most recent partial retirement.

  • Mass Retirements: If you need to undo a mass retirement, navigate to the Mass Retirements window, query the specific transaction, and choose Reinstate. Remember to rerun the Calculate Gains and Losses program afterward.

  • Reinstatement Errors: If you make a mistake while reinstating, you can query the reinstatement transaction in the Retirements window and select Undo Reinstatement.

Summary: To reverse an incorrect retirement entry, navigate to the Asset Workbench, select your asset, and click Retirements. Choose Undo Retirement for "Pending" transactions or Reinstate for "Processed" transactions, then run the Calculate Gains and Losses program to finalize the update.
