I want to know, if India has similar provision in corporate Law to start a company in similar lines such as "Business Development Company" in USA.

Based on my limited understanding, Indian companies pvt/public Ltd can not work as PE firms unless registered as NBFC. I do have intentions to start a pvt ltd company in the sames lines i.e. line of business is investing in another company or buying equity shares etc..
I understand this fourm seems to be right place to post this query, Kindly help me to understand if it is feasible in India. if yes, what needs to be done...
