I wish to register for GMCS (old) wherein only one gmcs was required. Is the old gmcs batch and new gmcs-ii batch same ?

Yes, your observation is correct.

Old GMCS course has been discontinued by ICAI w.e.f. 01.04.2014. Students who registered for articleship on/before 30.04.2012, need to do only GMCS-II now, instead of the erstwhile GMCS.
