The ACCESS DENIED error through net banking login on the income tax portal is almost always one of three causes.
First, check if your bank is on the empanelled list. Not all banks support net banking SSO for the income tax portal. The portal accepts net banking login only from about 30 authorised banks (SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Kotak, PNB, Bank of Baroda, etc.). If your bank is not on this list, the SSO will not work and the portal will return an access error.
Second, browser and cache issue. Clear all cookies and cache, then try in incognito mode. The portal is known to store old session tokens that block new logins.
Third, try a different login method. If net banking keeps failing, switch to PAN plus Aadhaar OTP. This is more reliable, does not depend on your bank, and works for most taxpayers. Go to incometax.gov.in, click Login, and choose e-Verify Services or ITR Filing, then use the Aadhaar OTP option.
Alternative: The IT Department mobile app also supports login without net banking if the portal is giving trouble.
