.....collect an invoice.... is it mandatory to get an invoice from freelancer for his services.
Yes, invoice would be a supporting document in respect of such transaction.

Yes, moreover, if you are subject to audit, the auditor would certainly ask for a supporting document. If the transaction is of personal nature, then you might ignore.
