Please clarify me Fixed deposit is treated as investment or equivalent to cash for the purose of Companies Act,2013 as there is requirement of filing of BR if funds are invested by a company.

Money deposited in a bank (whether in current account  or SB account or fixed deposit account) is not treated as an investment for the purpose of Companies Act 2013.  In Balance Sheet (Schedule-III) also it is shown under Cash & Bank Balances.  Investments (Current or Non-Current) are classified as shares, debentures,  bonds etc.  Section 186 also refers to acquisition of securities (as defined in Securities Contracts Regulation Act).
