Finding assessing officer

ITR 1113 views 6 replies

Hi,

I as an Individual filed return for AY 2012-13 with challan for self assessment tax. I got notice that I haven't deposited the amount I have mentioned as self assessment tax. Reason for notification was because Challan was generated for AY 2011-12.

As per my knowledge now this information can be corrected only by Assessing officer, but I have confusion regarding who will be Assessing officer based on following information:

ITR filed online.

Jurisdiction Assessing officer as per PAN details: Pune

Assessing officer as per address mentioned in ITR: Amritsar

Whom should I approach for getting this corrected?

Thanks,

Harvinder

Hi, Harvinder

Your jurisdictional A.O. can be tracked from following link.

https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-Filing/Services/KnowYourJurisdictionLink.html

But, As per my knowledge, your AO cannot correct your AY in challan.

It may be corrected by Bank from which you have paid it. But there are some limitions for that too.

if u have filed your itr online then check your itr-v for your AO. it is clearly written on itr-v that who is your AO

Ya, Ofcourse. It is also written on return filed. But if you find problems in finding it. Then, you can check on that link.

ca kapil goel, with due respect i would like to mention that bank can correct details pf challan only within 7days from the date of deposit. thereafter all corrections shall be corrected by AO only.

Ok.. may be...

I don't have complete knowledge on that issue.

Thanks for correcting me.

I talked to a local CA whom I entrusted for getting it corrected.
As per him my assessing officer will be that of Amritsar (as per my address in ITR V) and the AO mentioned in ITR V is picked from PAN card details with income tax department.
Reasoning:
AO on the basis of person's address will be given precedence over AO based on PAN and hence it will be by AO of my address.

Do you guys agree with it?
