Exporters get service tax relief

NEW DELHI: In a move that pleased the industry no end but left a Rs 600-crore dent on the exchequer, government on

Thursday decided to refund the service tax on all services that are used in export. Besides, services rendered abroad by

Indian companies, but charged on exports from India, would also be exempt from payment of 12% tax.

While the industry has been demanding a refund and exemption for many years, it is only now that exporters can hope to

get a refund on the service tax that they pay for hiring customs agents, courier companies and insurance premium. But

the details of the scheme are yet to be made public

Thanks,

Darshan
