Exemption from service tax to contractor...?

please clarify if a contractor provides service to state govt. or central govt. is there any need to collect st on amount charged by contractor from govt. for providing service.

yes why not...according to sec. 93 gov. has specified general exemptions to various categoris...

in my view, there is no exemption for service provided to state or central govt. it is depend on the nature of contract....currently contracts for roads, airport, railways, transport terminlas, bridges tunnels, dams and ports are exempted form ST.
