If Excise return is not filed on time., and duty is not paid on time what will be the cause and interest payable.

The Assessee shall be liable to pay Interest @ 18% p.a on the Outstanding Excise Duty for the period from the end of the due date till the date of payment. The Excise Department may also levy penalty for non-filing of Excise Return. Also, the Invoices issued after the the due date of non filing of Excise return will be invalid for Cenvat purpose.
