Errors with itr-3 xls and java xml utilities and e-filing

The previous ITR-4 is now replaced with ITR-3 in this AY 2017-18. Both the XML and Excel utility are giving XML related errors.

The Excel utility is successfully validating and generating XML within the utility. However e-filing this on the incometax website gives :

The XML Schema is invalid. Please upload the XML in correct schema. At Line Number 60: The content of element 'ITRForm:Auditinfo' is not complete.....

Being an IT person I validated this XML myself and it appears to be syntactically valid.

57  <ITRForm:AuditInfo>
58  <ITRForm:LiableSec44AAflg>N</ITRForm:LiableSec44AAflg>
59  <ITRForm:LiableSec44ABflg>N</ITRForm:LiableSec44ABflg>
60  </ITRForm:AuditInfo>

The online validation being done while uploading has some bugs -- or the XML being created by XLS tool is not what the online systems expects !

The Java utility is showing 8 errors of "Please enter numeric values" . Only God knows which field is this error referring to ???

Does anyone here face similar issues and knows what is the work-around ?

Wonder when will the IT dept or Infosys or whosoever is managing this website and systems do a proper sanity and complete end to end test before rolling new stuff out to public. At least make an online provision for end-users to log such complaints with screenshots and someone urgently handle this issues with these tools and online system. Those 1.5% income tax payers in this country are so harassed even for e-filing !

Hi Mr Thomas, I just saw the error msg. The error is because AuditAccountantFlg field is missing. Rest of the XML might be valid. You can add this flag using an editor and it should fix this.

Update >>> I finally managed to find the root cause of this error using the Java utility and file my ITR-3

The Excel tool is creating buggy XML output related to AuditInfo -- So stay cleer of this until they fix this.  Tip:: One work-around for IT savvy members here could be to open the generated XML file in a text editor , search for <ITRForm:AuditInfo> and  manually add  the bold tag shown below -- if its missing in their XML file generated by the Excel tool ( assuming assese is not liable to be audited under section 44A or 44B )

            <ITRForm:AuditInfo>
                <ITRForm:LiableSec44AAflg>N</ITRForm:LiableSec44AAflg>
                <ITRForm:LiableSec44ABflg>N</ITRForm:LiableSec44ABflg>
                 <ITRForm:LiableSec92Eflg>N</ITRForm:LiableSec92Eflg>
            </ITRForm:AuditInfo>

Using the Java tool,

Schedule AL cannot be ignored - ( Question A & C ) had to selected 'No' even if this Schedule is not applicable for assesse whose total income exceeds 50 lpa.

Check all Schedules and tabs to see if there is any amount entered with decimal places. Round all the amounts to nearest integer. In my case those "Please enter numeric value" was resulting from Tab 'TDS':18C1 - TDS2 where I entered ( actually cut/pasted ) few TDS deduction with decimals.

Hope this helps any once-troubled soul like me here wink

Thanks Neeraj. Yes I found this by trial and error.  Yes - any of those <tag> reported as missing by the online validator can be added to circumvent this error with the Excel tool.

you are welcome and thanks for sharing the workaround.

Invalid PAN. PAN format should be First 5 Alphabets, next 4 digits, then 1 Alphabet
