1. At the outset ,, start building your vocabulary. Try to learn 5 new words daily and try to use them also in your daily life.
2. try to use hindi english mixture while talking.
3. go online and find some tools for pronunciation.
4. Use that novel or story books which is in conversational mode.
and there are many ways to improve it. Learning a language is very long process. it will take some tym.

My say would be, Swati you sound good on your grammar but there is always room for

improvement. What I mean to put before you is one should consider working on basics,

I would hear people say ' I'll visit ....... on May'  Correct grammar would be "...... in May'

or 'visit on a date/day'. 

Once you know the basics of grammar like the back of your hand then it's time for

gymnastic words.  Lastly, as suggested above reading novels would be a great idea.

I agree with the many suggestions given by our friends. The core skill set to embrace any language is the passion to learn it. And I presume you have it in plenty, this is evident with the statement that you have made, about improving your English.

Watching English news on BBC, CNN, CNBC, NDTV etc., should also aid and equip you to pick standard vocabularies.

So the best way to judge your level of proficiency is when you speak to people, there is free flow of thoughts without hesitation / hiccups. In simple, clarity in what you intend to convey, which implies that you are a good communicator too.

I would like to tell you one very important ingredient for improving your English. Please avoid using SMS language as far as possible in your messages / mails / chats. You may be tempted to use them in your informal communication with your friends, that's okay and acceptable.

Start THINKING IN ENGLISH instead of your regional laguage.

Eg: If you think of having coffee. Think it in english rather than your local language..
