Tax queries 817 views 3 replies

Dear friends,

Whether dental expenses (incurred for replacement of teeth) are eligible for reimbursement under section 17(2)..

These expenses are incurred in a private hospital.

Employee is working in a private company.

Can he submit these bills to employer for reimbursement and use the limit of Rs.15000.

Please guide.

Dear Siddharth,

sec. 17(2) is saying about medical treatment only, and in my view, dental treatment should be covered in the same, and eligible for the reimbursement upto Rs. 15000.

Dear Arora,

Please confirm whether "medical treatment" is defined in the Act.

Dear Siddharth,

medical treatment for this sub-clause is not defined in the act or the rules.

So, you should produce medical bills to your employer and he will reimburse for the same and you will get deduction/exemption u/s 17(2) upto Rs. 15000.
