As for CPA eligibility, you need 120 credits to appear for the CPA exam and 150 credits for a CPA license.

  • General rule: Every year of university education in India is equivalent to 30-semester credits of US education.
  • Some state boards award credit for international professional qualifications like CA.
  • For international CPA candidates from India, generally 3-year commerce graduates from NAAC A universities who have scored a 1 st division are awarded 120 credits and, therefore, your 4 years of engineering education you should qualify for the CPA exams.

eah this confusion is super common, esp with IGNOU degrees

short answer: yes, your B.Com (A&F) from IGNOU is valid for CPA, and since you’re a CA, you’re actually in a strong spot.

here’s the reality:

IGNOU is UGC-approved → accepted by US evaluation agencies
CPA doesn’t give “direct transfer” → your marksheets get evaluated into US credits
B.Com + CA usually helps you reach 120 credits (exam eligibility)

most CA + B.Com candidates clear the eligibility part easily. 150 credits (for license) may need extra, but exam-wise you’re good.

this is based on how official credential evaluation bodies assess Indian degrees for CPA eligibility

what you should do:
just get your marksheets evaluated once — that’ll give you exact credits.

if you want, tell me your CA status (inter/final) and I’ll give a more exact idea 👍
