While generating e way bill for material to be sent on Returnable Basis, system asks for E invoice number(IRN). Is E Invoice mandatory for such transactions?
Under this transaction , there is no tax liability. Does the tax payer still needs to generate e Invoice?

Do not generate an E-Invoice for goods sent on a returnable basis, as it is not a taxable supply.

Issue a Delivery Challan containing all mandatory details (as per Rule 55).

Generate an E-Way Bill if the consignment value exceeds ₹50,000. In the "Invoice Number" field of the E-Way Bill, provide the Delivery Challan number.
