I have completed e-filing and got it successfully e-verified thru Aadhar OTP. how much time does it take to process the ITR after e-filing.

There is no fixed schedule for processing, atleast you will have to wait 3-4 months.

If it takes months then it should not be called as e-filing, great incometaxindia.gov.in

3-4 months is in comparision to a couple ofyears when we were filing manually, sir. I am sure in a year or two, instantaneous processing will be a reality in India. ( Last I heard even the most advanced of Tax adminstrations across the world do not process tax returns across the counter or e counter as the case may be). But believe me there have been cases where returns have been processed even in 15 days.

I agree with rajagopalakrishnan.further I feel dept takes time because it needs to refund the TDs in most cases. The dept will finalize returns earlier only in cases where there are further claims of tax or disallowance of deductions. Seniors can share experiences in this line

If the TDS and other tax paid data are exactly matching and there are no much intricacies in your return, return and refund gets processed within a month in many cases. Some delay was expreirienced in refunds between Jan and April 2015 wherein presumably the Govt had unofficially frozen the refunds on reports of sluggish tax collections this year. This is normally done at every financial year end and is part of the govt.'s budget balancing act.

By and large, the e filing systems has brought refreshing changes in the way retruns are processed in our country, although in the initial years there were some hitches. And the forward looking developments which are introduced - eg the EVC and Adhaar based OTP are simply laudable

My this years return got processed in 20 days flat so it depends on the algorithm they follow and believe me things are going on better side. yesterday there was nes that IT deptt have cleared 80% grievances on time and with new super computers in place and digital India movement in future you will see things moving very fast here.

it is great to hear in 20 days being less than a month and also 80% grievances being cleared, however if there are grievances by taxpaying pople it is 100% sure there is something wrong seriously with I.T. dept. i understand for settling few scrutiny cases they seek certain things even though the return and tax paid is ok. it is called tax terrorism in english (in India) hope you understand what is certain things.

Now that, sir, has nothing to do with E filing or E processing!!wink. It is the ethos of our country which needs to change. Tax payers are willing to "pay" to avoid  bigger skeletons from tumbling. The idea is for the tax payers to ensure that there are no skeletons in the cupboard. As the Great Kalam sahib said, " What are we doing about it??" This question should haunt every Indian till such "terrorists" are driven away from our land

I have sent 18 itr1 n itr2 for processing to cpc banglore. all they got refund within 5-6 days from the date of receipt of ITR to cpc.. processing is quite fast now..

I e filed on 3rd July 2015. ITR V sent on the next day. Acknowldgement of ITR V on 10.07.2015. Return processed on 17.07.2015. Over . It was very simple. I hope in my case, there was no refund claim.
