Does pan change when citizenship changes

Others 1874 views 1 replies

If a Indian Citizen obtains a PAN as a Resident Indian Citizen, then migrates to a foreign country and becomes a citizen of that country, then after a long overseas stay returns back to India on a foreign passport and say 'OCI', will it impact his/her PAN that was obtained as Indian citizen?

Do expats have different PAN numbers?

Do such ex-Indian citizens who return with a foreign passport need to file “updation of PAN details” and give new documents? Does anything changes with respect to his PAN or everything remains as is?

Expats dont have to make changes in PAN. The just have to change status from Resident to Non Resident or Resident but Not Ordinary resident while filing IT return and calculate the tax liablity accordingly
