Do you think ICAI is becoming unpopular with everyone - among students for bringing harsh regulations, among share holders & regulators for not doing enough in Satyam case? Or is ICAI really developing well by bringing MOA with CPA - Australia & ICAEW? I dont know instance where any ICAI's move has been welcomed in the recent past?I want to know the opinion of members.

you can ask whether people have lost trust on ICAI rather than unpopular, bcoz bringind harsh regulations doesnt mean it is unpopular but people may not go for CA but the fact remains that CA is popular among people.
Yes ICAI is becoming unpopular for its attitude. It is always having a high handed attitude and trying to create monopoly market (e.g. objection to ICWAI name change, action against Chartered Accountants who are doing CFA from ICFAI). Recently High Court has turned down the decision of ICAI regarding CFA from ICFAI. On such issue also some Chartered Accountants (certainly not all and very few in number) in this forum have directly or indirectly critisised the Court. It appears that some members for their vested interest trying to push ICAI to take many wrong decisions and making it a like a labour union. It will ultimately go against ICAI only. I am sure most of the members having open mind think contrary to the thinking of ICAI Council but they have to be more active to change the attitude of the Council ( be it relating to new articleship, ICWA name change, ICFAI qualification, opening up of Tax Audit/ VAT Audit to ICWAI and ICSI etc)
