Can a person be a director in a private limited company without holding any share?

Will there be any difference if  the Articles of Association is silent on the shareholding of the director ?

yes a person can be a director in a private company without any shares bcos sec 270 relating to qualification share does not apply to pvt company moreover since aoa is also silent. however if articles prescribe for taking share then director must otherwise not.
i agree with shubham there is no need of getting shares in case of pvt ltd company
