Keep trying in updated excel version
Sec 139(8A) IS A DEFECTIVE RETURN AS PER INCOME TAX ACT 1961
Sec 139(8A) is a updated return and sec 139 (9) is a defective return both are different
Try after clearing catche data and thereafter try to file fresh once again.....also check if prefilled data has any foreign characters such as ,..."*# etc
Might be issue with excel version if you are doing offline..
Use the excel which is compatible with IT website..
Else do the filing online

Have anyone filed updated return till date of any client
Filed for past 2 years but we didn't get any error

Problem might be with your ms Excel..Use windows 2007 and above instead of 2003
