Complaince letter received from income tax for f.y. 2012-13

Respected Sir,

I came across a case where the client has received compliance letter from IT departmetn for non filling of return for F.Y. 2012-13, as there are certain transactions which indicates that the income was taxable for that particular period.

Since the time limit has already lapsed to file return for this period, what should be the course of action. Could you please advice.

You have to check the income details, respond to compliance online, prepare the case and present in front of AO, as per case merit he may allow to accept return.

Thanks all for the replies. @ mr.patel the compliance letter doesnot mention about sec 142 and if we file a return under this section without notice then it will be defective.. Does the law permits assessee to file return under this section without notice..? Pls advice Thanks again

Yes u ri8 mr .anand. Return will be invalid if u file it without receiving notice u/s 142.
