03 February 2009Whether rental charges collected by a club for accomodation to its members or guests of its members liable to service tax?
The club apart from this activity is liable to service tax on subscribtion collected from its members, other sports services like Tennis, Badminton, Swimming, Cricket, Snooker etc. gymnasiam and various other activities a club provides as facilities to its members.

They are liable to collect Luxury Tax on Room Tariff under the Maharashtra Tax on Luxuries Act, 1987 and not Service Tax.
