In the world of business, the Indian IT and ITeS businesses have been forever connected by a hyphen despite running on parallel tracks. If the IT business was about engineers writing complex code, ITeS (IT-enabled Services) was about youngsters with an accent talking away. IT was high brow, ITeS was low brow.

IT companies were reluctant to run a call centre, a young and restless workforce, accent training, odd hours, cabs, and ITeS companies could only aspire to write software. Besides, there was so much work going for both that they had no reason to look beyond their domain area.

Now, they are looking, and are finding enough reason to cross over. They are discovering synergies, which can open up new business opportunities and keep the growth ticking. In 2008-09, according to industry body Nasscom, there were five IT companies in the list of top 10 ITeS companies: TCS, IBM, Wipro, Infosys and HCL.

The top 5 players in both the IT and ITeS sectors are making overtures to the other side. Check out.
