Change in 26as after filing it return

I am a pensioner from Osmania University Hyderabad.  I normally file my returns on line by first or second week of April, every year. However from last year, University started deducting TDS and I had to wait till form 26AS is available.  I also find that the TDS deducted is credited very late by University - may be 3 or 4 months.  Is there any STATUTORY TIME LIMIT SPECIFIED BY GOVERNMENT by which time the emploer has to  pay the TDS to the IncomeTax , thereby AS26 is updated? Since I do not want to loose the credit in 26AS, I do not want to take the risk of filing returs early. University Authorities do not answer satisfactorly why TDS is not reflected in 26AS.  As retired pensioners, we can not be running from pillar to post with such questions.  What is the remedy, and how long should I wait before I file reurns?

File your returns only after all your Tds credits get reflected in Form 26AS as if you file before that you will claim credit of tds which would remain un-reflected in the department records. As a result of tax credit mismatch demand would be raised.

Thanks.  I will wait.  However I want to know, how long should I wait?  2 months or three months because, there is a time limit by which I should file my returns.

Wait till the tds credit gets reflected or 31st July 2017 whichever is earlier.
As per Tds rules last date for filing form 24Q and 26Q by the deductor is end of May 2017. Hence try downloading Form 26AS in the 1st week of June.

Thanks - both of you.  Though I do not understand much about 24Q/26Q, I culd make out that  the deadline for for University to remit taxes to IT Dept is end of May 2017.  I will check up 26AS after 1st June and file returns.

Thanks again

u should file ur return by July end...so that TDS deducted of p.y will be reflected in 26as

Thank you sir

what can be done if any credit in 26AS remains unclaimed?
can it be claimed in next return?
can we claim it in revised return?
Thanks in advance.
@ Rahul Jain-Revise the return and claim credit for TDS.
what is time limit for filing return expires.?
or original return filed is belated?
is there any remedy to claim such credit in these circumstances..
Thanks
please read what if instead of what is in above comment.
If time limit expires to file return then the return cannot be revised. However belated return can now be revised.
if a deduction is left out for claming while you file the return then it can be claim by filing revise return and revise return should be filed before the end of the assessment year...
if u filed belated return u/s 139(4) then you are not eligible to file revises return...
