Challan num begin with zero. portal making mistake

Efiling 1226 views 19 replies

Friends, am helping a tax filing for friend and one of his challan number was beginning with zero. Its 06094. I have entered it correctly but portal put it  as 6094 in his return (4 numbers only). CPC has sent him tax credit mismatch notice for this reason

Yesterday I tried to revise it for him as second attempt but its happening again. the new portal is making this mistake. It is leaving zeros in beginning and making challan number short.

Am surprised. this hasnt happened before to me.  Any of you also facing this problem??

Check challan status on OLTAS if it's matched

George

in challan and in OLTAS and in 26AS the challan num is 06094. They are matching. But in ITR forum it has become 6094

The ITR software is removing the zero

I am surprised. any body also facing this problem? ITR filing software is removing the zero in the challan num and making it only 4 numbers. challan num is 5 number long. But ITR software is deleting first zero. on client side we did not made any mistake. We entered 06094 but ITR software has made it 6094

I try to revise the return for friend and again its same problem. I enter correct challan number as per OLTAS and 26AS but in the next page itself the software changing challan number without asking.

Anybody else facing this issue? ITR filing software deleting the zero from valid challan num and making it invalid.

why is ITR software changing challan num from 06094 to 6094? this causing challan mismatch and tax demand. any body else facing this problem (changing challan num mimmatch)

Harish, are you able to fix this issue.? I am also facing a similar thing. Form 26AS shows my challan number correctly but the ITR form removes the first zero in the challan number. Should we contact the income tax helpline are report this bug.?

Me too facing similar issue. Even has Tax Credit mismatch listed for previous Assessment year but no demand for tax though.

This year also, I had zero in challan number and having same issue. It is showing as Tax credit mismatch. I am wondering if this will delay my return processing. Submitted 3 weeks ago and not processed yet. Anybody has any solution for this?

Hi Peer,

Did your itr processed yet? i am also having same issue with serial number

Hi Jagdish,

yes itr processed. And tax credit mismatch still shown on portal. It is a portal error so I think we are good. As long as we don’t get any notice, we don’t have to worry about it.

Regards,

Peer

Thanks Peer for the updates..

Hi Peer,

I have having same issue in challan number. In the ITR processing intimation did it mentioned anything about tax credit mismatch or you have checked it from 'Tax credit mismatch' option? also from this year assessment tax will be only updated in AIS not in 26AS so in tax credit mismatch it is showing mismatch with AIS challan?

Hi Harish,

Did your ITR is also processed or you had to pay extra tax?

Nothing mentioned in ITR. They are aware of this system issue. I also see it for many of my previous years too for the taxes my employer paid. My friend too has the same. I think this is is all due to the new system in place and they will sort out soon I believe. Don’t worry, ITR will be processed without any issues.

I am facing this issue for FY 22-23. ITR is not yet processed but portal showing Tax credit mismatch.
@ jagdish @ Ranjana Did you find any solution for this or ITR got processed fine for you ?

Hi Asoni,

My ITR has been processed today without any issue. Actually from this year the tax challan details will be visible under AIS portal and not in form 26AS. In AIS portal serial number is showing same (without zero) so there will not be any issue.

To check this you can access AIS - open FY 23-24 -go to Tax payments tab and check the challan details
