If retiring director is retiring by rotation u/s 255 and 256 and due for re-appointment in the AGM then according to me yes you can appoint him as Chairman of the AGM.

Yes, the director who is retiring by rotation and eligible for reappointment can be elected as Chairman of the AGM.
