Hello Ms. Nisha!

Considering your situation, there are few points you need to think about:

  1. Firstly, I would like to tell you what someone I know did before they set up their practice. They went into service for a while with a mid-size firm so they could get familiar with the market, current events, and build their network. However, they did not have a toddler to look after.
  2. Since you do have a child to look after, you might need to think about how you and your husband/in-laws/parents would take turns in taking care of the child.
  3. If you do go into practice, it would be a bit more stressful as you would have to do a lot of groundwork since you haven't been in touch with the subject for a long time and you would need to build proper customer relations, think about office space, set proper office procedures, recruit people.
  4. One of the ways you could get back is to refresh yourself with various changes that have taken place since you left. Companies Amendment Act, 2017 , GST, several new changes in the Income Tax field and SEBI regulations have come into existence. Depending on what field you like, you could sign up for online courses for members, some of which are free without the certificate. You can check those out here and here
  5. A good way to rebuild your network and get in touch with your previous colleagues and principals is to sign up for LinkedIn , if you haven't already.

Any decision you make shouldn't make you feel like you can't give your child and/or career your time. I would, however recommend going into practice first, but please do discuss about your child's care with your family.

I hope my input helps. All the best with your career and family life and have a nice day!!
