Can a single Debit note or a Credit note under GST be issued against multiple Invoices?

In my opinion single Debit note or a Credit note under GST cannot be issued against multiple Invoices as for every invoice we have to mention invoice number so for debit note or in credit note we have to mention against which original invoice number debit note or credit note has been raised
