Can a CA do business other than Practice in his own name while having COP

My query is Can a CA do a business in his own name other than practicing while he is having COP, and if yes, does he needs to inform to ICAI about the business and what details need to be informed.

Quick Summary
This discussion explores whether a Chartered Accountant (CA) holding a Certificate of Practice (COP) can simultaneously run a separate business in their own name. The consensus suggests that while a practicing CA is generally restricted to practice-related activities, engaging in other businesses requires prior permission and notification to the ICAI. If a CA is not actively practicing, a COP may not be necessary, but running a separate business still necessitates adherence to ICAI's Code of Ethics and potentially seeking approval.

Having COP means you have applied for practice certificate.

If you're not practicing then COP should not be filled.

Prior permission is required from ICAI for doing specified business.
Ok, let me explain you the scenario, I have a proprietorship registered under GST having business of trading of construction material, So can i do this business in my name and can apply for COP with having this business also.
Yes you can do business but if you're not practicing then COP is not required
Practicing CA can't do any other business aprt from practice, in his own name.
If he is doing any other business then he has to inform and also take the permission from icai.

You can read code of Ethics of that
