Caliming HRA for portion of a year

I stayed in 2 rented houses , one from Apr-2022 to Oct-2022 and another from Nov-2022 to March-2023

I had to shift house because of job change and HRA and Basic component of these 2 jobs are also different.

But in the new house owner is not giving his PAN details , but owner from old house used to give PAN.Because of this confusion I didnt claim any HRA from my new employer.

So I am planning to claim HRA only for Apr-2022 to Oct-2022 during IT returns filing.

AFAIK , I need to consider basic/HRA from my payslip for Apr-2022 to Oct-2022 and also rent for same period while calculating HRA exemption. Is that right?

If it is correct how do I give the details of this methodology of calculating HRA exemption in ITR-2 or inform Income Tax office about this? ITR-2 asks only for final exemption amount.

Can I just claim now and worry about it when I am asked to give more details of HRA exemption?

Thanks!

Quick Summary
This discussion addresses how to claim House Rent Allowance (HRA) exemption for only a portion of the financial year when you've lived in multiple rental properties. The user is unsure how to proceed as one landlord did not provide their PAN details, preventing them from claiming HRA for that period. The advice clarifies that HRA exemption can indeed be claimed for the period where rent receipts and landlord PAN are available, and explains the calculation based on actual HRA received, salary components, and rent paid.

As per section 10(13A) of the income Act , read with rule 2A of the income tax rules ( please refer), you Can claim significant part of HRA as deduction .

Deduction is available least of the following amount.

1) Actual HRA received

2) 50% of the basic salary + DA those who are living in metro cities like (Dehli, Mumbai Kolkata, Chennai)

3) 40% of the basic salary thoses who living in non metros

4) Actual rent paid  less 10% of Basic salary + DA

PAN of landlord is required for to claim deduction.

Yeah I understand the HRA rule.

What I am asking is can I calim it for half of the year? as for the other half I dont have landlore PAN number

In my first  reply  , I had mentioned  word "  Deduction "   due to oversight  , so please  read  " Exemption"  instead  of  Deduction .
