CA Versus CS

I am told that in INDIA total number of registered members of ICSI are just around 25 thousand , while in ICAI the number of CA is above one lakh 60 thousand !!!

Is it correct ?

If it is correct, then why CS are less paid than CA ?

The main reason for lesser number of CS is due to the fact that ICSI came into existence in 1982 whereas ICAI is there since 1949. So this gap of 33 years makes a difference. Baki on payments issue,no comments...

Hi Kumar,

Agree with above members, as CS was in 1982 & CA in 1949, so

there is gap of 33yrs.

Both CA & CS are professional courses and have respective demand.

There are 9 lac companies and only apprx 25 to 28 thousand CS

So CS is statutory requirement, so demand is there - no doubt.

Coming to payments, Even CS are paid better.

What matters is the level of knowlegde, skill, and other factors.

Focus on acquiring knowledge, if there is strong knowledge,

money will come its way. It doesnt matter whether it is CA or CS,

After all its degree only and you have to apply your knowledge of

CA or CS when it comes to practicle life.

Every professional course has its uniqueness and specialisation area. If one posess good knowlledge in its respective field then money will come in its way. The time gap is the main reason for lesser number of members.

CS job is limited to Company act 1956. But in case of CA there is statutory compliance like IDT, DT, Tax audit, signing of B/S ect. That is why there is a difference in salary.

My dear friend

Role of CS is just not restricted to companies act 1956.

The scope is much wider. CS plays a very important

role in terms of secretarial , compliance and other matters.

He is vital link b/w mgmt, shareholders, various regulatory

authorities, employees , investors.

CS also acts as Compliance Officers.

And according to nature of company the responsibilities

also varies.

CS scope is across different areas which includes

Labour Laws, Companies Act, FEMA,

SEBI , Stock Exchanges , much more.

So please do not get mislead that CS is restricted to

Companies Act Only.

The difference between CA and CS is hell and heaven. To know more about CA vs CS asked from the person who have completed CA and CS both. I have cleared CA and CS both so I know in better prospect. I scored rank in CS final without any good preparation (just go through with last 5 year papers). Also, the single CS can handle complaiance related work for whole indutry but its totally opposite with CA.

Good to hear you have scored rank for CS.

I am not debating on what CA or CS can handle.

Both are professionals specialised in their area.

I just clarified to one of the member that

"Scope of CS is not just restricted to Companies Act 1956".

And i hope even you would agree to that.

Both Professions have their own value,

so lets not uplift one and put down the other.

Both are just degrees, finally matters is application of knowledge in practicle field.

Hi Friends,

( CS passed ,CA Final appeared )

some factors ( these are modern business strategies) other than discussed above:

1) Pressure on Govt thru powerfull lobby for scope of work

2) International marketing of course

3) Control over result

but very very Thanx to ICAI for this

jago CS members otherwise secretarial audit bhi CA wale le jayenge!!!!!!!!!!

Every profession has specialisations in a particular area. But that doesn't in any way mean that one is much easier than the other. Those who think that CS is easy and takes no efforts at all to be a CS, I feel sorry for them that they don't know about the profession in details. Its ok if we don't know, but we should not pass wrong comments about it at all. Please be responsible friends, we are all educated people. There is absolutely no point fighting over which profession is at a higher ground..We should learn to respect other professions also..

Coming to the number of professionals, i do agree with the fact that it is the duration of the existance of the profession is the reason for the difference in numbers.

Where as for the difference in pay structures, i would like to differ with people saying that CS is easier and the role of CS is lesser than that of CA. Few have pointed out that it is comparitively easier to pass CS than CA. I agree with that.

But it is a fact which has to be agreed that passing is not the same as standing in the career. A rank holder in the examination need not actually become a good professional. Or a student who made many attempts to pass may not be considered as a non-professional.

Difference in pay is just about the demand. For CA, the demand is more though the supply is more. For CS, though the supply is less, demand is lesser. CS is required in a company only if the paid up capital of the company exceeds Rs.5 Crores. Whereas a CA is required to audit every company in India and all the firms and business beyond a limit. There lies the difference between the demand for the professions and the reason for the difference in pay structures. But it is surely not because of the lack of knowledge, expertise or any other thing.
