CA foundation is different from CA CPT, CA foundation is the replacement of CPT course. This decision is taken by ICAI to make the entrance level tough. ICAI makes some changes in the syllabus of CA entrance exam. The exam paper pattern is also changed by ICAI. 

The exams of CA foundation will conduct twice in a year May and November. After clearing 12th board exams, a student can register for CA foundation course. The exam pattern of CA foundation course is partially objective and partially subjective. The syllabus of CA foundation course is divided into four parts:

1. Principles and Practices of Accounting
2. Business Law and Business Correspondence and Reporting
3. Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning and Statistics
4. Business Economics and Business and Commercial Knowledge

The above two subjects are subjective and other two subjects are objective. There is no negative marking in subjective part of the exam but negative marketing will continue to remain in the objective part.

If a student wants to register for CA foundation course, so he can register for CA foundation course through the online portal of ICAI under students tab. 

• The cost of CA foundation prospectus is Rs. 200 for Indian students and $20 for Foreign students. 
• Foundation registration fee is Rs. 9000 for Indian students and $700 for Foreign students. 
• Subscripttion for Students Journal (For one Year- Optional) is Rs. 200 for Indian students and $20 for Foreign students. 

According to the new curriculum of ICAI, CPT course is replaced by CA foundation course. CA foundation is the entry-level exam of CA course same as CPT. But CPT was replaced by CA foundation in July 2017. 

As per the latest ICAI notification, CA CPT exam will not be conducted after June 2019 session. CA CPT 2019 June session will be the last session of CPT exam. It has been decided in lieu of the introduction of new CA entry level exam, i.e. CA Foundation 2018, under revised scheme. After June 2019, CA Foundation will become the sole CA entry-level qualification examination. Until this period, both CA CPT and CA Foundation examinations will be conducted by ICAI. 

CA Foundation is the newly introduced entry-level qualification test for Chartered Accountancy, formulated under revised CA education and training scheme based on international education standards. CA Foundation exam will be held twice a year by ICAI- once in May and once in November. Candidates who will qualify CA Foundation exam will be enrolled in IPCC (Intermediate Professional Competence Course) New course also designed on revised education scheme, which would train qualified candidates for next level of Chartered Accountancy course.

4. Business Economics and Business and Commercial Knowledge (100 Marks)
   • Business Economics(60 Marks)
   • Business and Commercial Knowledge (40 Marks)
