Ca final idt may 14 marking scheme

The Institute has recently published new study material for Indirect Taxes and in the Initial Pages, it is specified that although the material is for Nov 14 exams, it is also relevant for May 14 exams alogwith certain changes. For eg. VAT needs to be studied through the appendix. This might give a notion that old marking scheme of Excise (40), Service Tax & VAT(40) and Customs(20) will be followed, but no clarification has been issued in this regard. Can someone confirm this marking scheme?

Also, I tried posting this query on "e sahyaata" and found that "e sahyaata" is only for administrative queries and not techinical clarifications by ICAI. Is this true?

When their is no so clarification and notice issued do not interpret it in a normal manner. As far as i know their was change in marking system after 40 - 40 - 20 scheme. I believe it is 25 - 50 - 25. It is evident from following links. Have a look

There is no such change in the marking scheme. The notification clearly says that the revised scheme will be applicable only from November, 2014. Please do not misguide the students.

Only VAT has to be studied from appendix. No other thing has changed for May, 2014 exams.

Udit, their is no misguidance given. Kindly refer the links. Also the marks where this time 25 - 50 - 25. I don't want to enter into controversies. Links are given for reference. Pls follow the forum rules also.
It is evident from the links provided above that: 1. the new syllabi is applicable only from november 2014. so not applicable for may 2014. so no change in the mark distribution among the topics. it will continue for may 2014 as 40-40-20., and not as 20-50-25. 2. there is no separate study material published exclusively for may 2014 exams. the one issued in october 2013 can be used by may 2014 candidates also "subject" to the modicfications... (exclude chapter on foreign trade policy)but need to prepare for vat from the appendix provided..

Dont fight with each other, end the topic now.

pls dont comment afterwards

The marking scheme for may 14 exam remains the same !!

Hi Friends,

See below is what institute is saying which is applicable for Novemeber-2014 Examiniation

Marks distribution among the three sections namely, Central Excise, Service Tax
and Customs and Foreign trade Policy has been altered as under:

Section A Central Excise 25 marks
Section B Service Tax 50 marks
Section C Customs and Foreign Trade Policy 25 marks
Total 100 marks

(iii) VAT has been excluded from the syllabus

So if you read it reversal, for May-2014 Exam VAT will be INCLUDED.

Since VAT is inclusive therefore weightage is still continues.

So the Marks slab is still 40-20-40(Excise,Custome,ST&Vat)

MARKS DISTRIBUTION FOR MAY 2014 FOR INDIRECT TAX LAWS

CENTRAL EXCISE DUTY  -40 marks

SERVICE TAX  AND VAT  -40 marks

CUSTOMS                      -20 marks
