You can claim exemption for consecutive 5 attempt. Please note that even if u dont attempt in particular year that will be counted.

So in ur case u can claim exemption upto May 2011 nonetheless you appear for one group, both group or doesnt appear at all.

I too have a doubt....i got exemption in MICS last exam. This exam i've scored above 60 in IDT...will i be eligible for exemption in both these papers? thanks  in advance...

Sorry Dear Srivatsan, but u hv option to choose between mics & idt. u can avail exemption in any one of the two.

Dear Sumeet.

The exemption lapses after 3 attempts and not 5 attempts. You can check your exam application form for any exam. I lost my MICS exemption as I could not clear the group. This exemption I got in May'08.

Yaar i just want to know whether the exemption expires after 3 attempts or after 2 attempts..the counting for the exemption starts after the attempt in which u achieved or including the attempt...

In simpler terms I got exemption in IDT in Nov-08 and after that have given 2 more attempts in June 09 & Nov 09. so whether my exemption is gone or still i can avail it in May 2010 attempt...

Dear All,

In this crisis time of post analysis of  marks obtained & framing strategies to conquer your inevitable dreams of becoming CA , I thought I should clarify the exemption rules for you all. The rules regarding exemptions are:

1) An exemption is valid for next 3 consecutive attempts.Non appearance in an attempt shall also count for this purpose. In simple words, an exemption obtained in Nov,2009 shall be valid upto May 2011.

2)If in subsequent attempt, you get exemption in any other paper, you would have to exercise the option of claiming the exemption from either of the two as per your choice. However, if two or more exemptions are obtained in same attempt, then it is allowable for being carried forward for next 3 attempts.

3)An exemption is valid for that particular group only. For example, If you obtain exemption in MAFA & you manage to pass the group in next attempt of both groups, the surplus marks obtained in Group-1 cannot be setoff with marks of Group -2. As such, No setoff is permissible within groups while enjoying exemptions.

4) You cannot secure rank while you enjoy exemptions even if you have the requiste marks cumulatively for both groups.

5) You have the option to surrender the exemption on your own wish..( exceptional students do it keeping the 4Th factor in mind). However in the current scenario, this is not advisable.

I hope it will clarify all your doubts.

Best of luck for your future endeavours

Hi,

Can someone tell me, is it necessary to obtain minimum 20 or 30 Marks in the Other papers of the Group, in order to obtain Exemption? This rule was applicable years Ago. Is it applicable till date?? Please reply soon..

Hi all...

I would like to clarify something in this regard to all. Accidentally i read this above conversion and thought of giving a correct solution to clarify u all...

since so much of confusion aroud there about this exmption marks, i'm taking this burden of quoting you the exact wording of " Regulation 38A of CA Regluations 1988" which contains the provisions relating to exmption read with Notification no 1-CA(7)/51/2000 dt. 14.08.01.

This has been published in our MAY 2010 Examtion application form.

"A candidate who fails in one or more papers comprised in a group but secures a minimum of 60% of the marks in any paper or papers of that group shall be eligible to appear at anyone or more of the immediately next three following examinations in the paper of papers in which he had secured less than 60% marks and shall be declared to have passed in that group if he secures at one attempt a minimum of 40% marks in each of such paper or papers and a minimum of 50% of the total marks of all the papers of that group........"

The implication are of the above para.......... (Asgiven in the explanatory notes contained along with Form - B of May 2010 exam)

(iii) That the marks of 60% or more secured in one or more papers are carried forward automatically for the immediately next three following examinations

(iv) That the candidate will be declared to have passed in the said group in any one of the next three following examinations if he secures 40% in each of the paper and 50% in aggregate of all papers.

(v) That the exemption will be granted only when a candidate is present in all the papers comprised in a group. The candidate is not eligible for any further exmption under this proviso in the next three following examinations (i.e., till the validity of the exemption already granted).

Conclusion is:

1. If u r already having exemption, no more exemption, u will not... u will not have an option to choose either of the subject if u get more than 60% in the subsequent attempts.

2. In one sitting if u write all the four papers and secure more than 60% in 3 papers then u will be given all three exemptions too....

Kuthpudin

Can anyone tell me the procedure of availing so.

Thanks,

hi,

can anyone clarify more to KUTHPUDIN post whether the total in 3 subjects in a group contibutes to 60% marks, will exemptions be available to all 3 papers ? for example marks in group II are 29, 58,57,70 (58,57,70 contributing 61%) will exemption be available for all 3papers.

i hv gt exem in mafa n law both in one attempt..bt gt 25 in audit will i b eligble 4 claimin ex in both??????????n if in next attempt if my total in grp 1 is more than 200 wil that exta mark will help 2 set off wit grp 2 marks???????plz help.....i hv read the post gvn above bt plz help me by gvn a straight reply 2 my query........

Reply to Pooja's querry:- if your friend scored both exemption's in the same attempt i.e in Nov'09 then she can avail both the exemptions in the immediately following next 3 attempts irrespective of the fact that whether she appear in those attempts or not i.e upto May'11 attempts...after that those exemptions will lapse...but if she has scored exemption in MICS in Nov'09 & now in May'10 she scored exemption in IDT then now she can't avail exemption of her choice(this is to the best of my knowledge)...she can avail only MICS exemption in Nov'10 exams which she scored in Nov'09.

Reply to Bharath's querry:- no,you have to score 60 in individual subject's & then only you are exempted from appearing in those papers in the immediately following next 3 attempts...so according to the individual marks stated by you above, you are eligible for exemption in IDT only in which you have scored 70.

Reply to Khusboo's querry:- yes,you can avail exemption in both MAFA & Law...you can confirm the same(that are you exempt from appearing in those papers in the next attempt or not) by checking below your group 1 total...it would be written FAIL-Ex instead of just FAIL if you are exempt...& yes set off will be available if you appear in remaining 6 paper's in the next attempt & you would be treated as if you have appeared in both group's...means if in next attempt you score 215 in G-I & 190 in G-II then you will be declared PASS...provided you fulfill the minimum score criteria for all the subjects i.e score atleast 40 in all.

All above reply's are correct to the best of my knowledge..still you all can confirm the same from other's too...

Good LucK & All d VerY BesT for Nov. 10 Exams...!!!

Can someone tell me, is it necessary to obtain minimum 20 or 30 Marks in the Other papers of the Group, in order to obtain Exemption? is there any notification clearifing that???????
