Now Cost and Works Accountants will be known as Cost Accountants, Cost accounting body will share the same acronym – ICAI

Cost and Works Accountants will now only be known as Cost Accountants, with Parliament approving amendments to the existing legislation earlier today.

Also, there will be some brand confusion as the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India will now be called the Institute of Cost Accounts of India. As a consequence, the Chartered Accounts Institute and the Cost Accounts Institute will share the same acronym – ICAI.

The approved amendments to three separate acts – the Cost Accountants, Chartered Accountants and Company Secretary acts will also enable professionalsto form limited liability partnerships and offer multidisciplinary services.

Members of both the profession are requested to give their comment on the move by way of comment below the post so that we can make a memorandum the Government.

i m totally against this move of government. We respect CWA profession. But both the courses & their values are totally different. Having same acronym as that of our institute will create confusion among people & our institute will loose its indentity.

But its good they are not allowed to use CA. as prefix to their name.

They will be called as cost accountant & preifx they can use is CMA.

I think,All CA,CS and CWA should be merge and should work through single window ..........I think it will be better for students who are pursuing 2 courses in same time and also better for Institutes for saving Money, Manpower and infratructure.

We earned the CA tag not to share it with other professions. We respect other professions but cant share the same platform.

i also dont agree with you........all the three professions have different role in society & have its own value.......u cannot merge them all in one.......

I am not agree with the name change of ICWAI to ICAI. Two different profession with same name creat confusion. so govt. should consider this factor also.

Even Institute of CWA is against changing the name as ICAI (Institute of Cost Accountants of India), check this

But I donot agree with CWA institute asking the govt to remove "chartered" from ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India..

There should be healthy relation between these two statutory bodies, As per me, such arguments are not done or between these institutes, but because of the bosses of these institutes,
