CA --> CFA --> Investment Banker

Hello everyone

I'm currently pursuing CA Ipcc group 2. I wish to join CFA after the completion of my CA final level(approx. will take 2/3 years more) as being an Investment Banker is my 2nd goal. I'm from a lower middle class family that wouldn't permit me to pursue another course in another country after 2/3 years. I've decided to study for both CA final & take little cumulative preparation for CFA syllabus from now on, simultaneously. I'm also hoping for Scholarship in this regard, if any available.

I'm requesting you to kindly send me the feedback & other valuable suggestion on this.

Thank You,

Soumyajyoti Sarkar

My opinion is . after completion of CAFINAL can pursue CFA along with job under any mutual fund, investment advisory firm. Some companies sponser additional educaation fees while in job and even they dont support financially can manage with salary that time.Till qualifying CAFINAL no need to think about CFA ,can start pursuing this after CAFINAL,

This is what i have planned for me

Hello Ganeshbabu K,

Which institute are you planning for CFA(India) or CFA(Usa) ? And also there won't be sufficient time to provide for study during Job life. Why not better start taking little preparation from now. Atleast we've got SFM in CA final.

The point is you will now be encouraged and motivated for both the course but as days pass and the syllabus expands you will start to feel the heat from both the courses, CA being the primary catch will obviously leave you with less time for CFA and i feel you wouldnt be able to do justice with yourself.

moreover while working for a investment banking background company you will get the practical exposure of the real world. Trust me this will help you get through CFA.

however the final call rests in your decision, hence play it safe and sound...

Thank you, Vivek joshi
You are correct in view of the practical approach. Yes, now the option is burning inside me, and it'll start to diminish as time lapses.

I was talking about, to have more interest in Finance subject rather than taxation, auditing & others. In other words, depth of study & Specialisation. If I will find it difficult to study the both, atleast I will prevail in that Finance environment so that interest will grow and I will start it after being a CA.

Thank you for the feedback !

Good Mr. Vivek

when ur going to attempt CA Final

If u are doing articles, then concentrate on their financials during ur audit, interact with Finance Managers regarding loans, & finance activities, Foreign exchange

there by u will gain some stuff which gives practical knowldge, which helps u more in further

@ Murthy - Yeah im a student for a lifetime because one course isnt enough to make me sit back and cool my heels i need something to keep me moving and keep me occupied :-)

thank you Murthy Sir

Since you aim with investment banking is doing on the side. Go for a short term course, preferably online and lookg for courses that provide guidance/mentorship maybe even placement assistance. Know the core subjects they cover and compare it with other courses to see if it's comprehensive

One of my personal suggestions is IIM Skills. Only heard good things about them, since one of my peers had enrolled over there and spoke about them in high regard.
