Ca after b.com - please guide

Hi everyone

I am a 22 yr old B.Com graduate (passed in 2011) - I have completed 1 year of work My initial plan was to pursue MBA after 1-2 years of work experience, but nowadays eveyone is going for MBA and I have doubts if pursuing MBA will give me a secure career. Also, MBA course costs minium 7 lakhs, I am uncomfortable asking my parents for this.

I had thought about CA after passing 12th, but I decided to get a degree. So now I have submitted my resignation letter in my office and I wish to pursue studies full time, and 3 of my friends (who are pursuing CA) are advising me to pursue CA. I have some doubts and will be greatful for your advice

1. Can I register for CA using the exemption rule for B.Com students and attempt directly for IPCC? How does this work, if I avail exemption, can I appear for IPCC directly or will I have to start articleship (like in old scheme)? Or is it better to attempt CPT and then join? Please advice the best route for joining for me

2. I had attempted CPT in 2008, will that registration still be valid?

3. I would like to think myself as an above average student. I secured 85% in XIIth (commerce stream) and 77% for B.Com, is CA achieveable for a person like me?

4. How is the future prospects compared to ICW?? I asked around and general opinion is that CA has better prospects than ICW?  5. When is registrations open for 2013 IPCC exams?

6. At 22 yrs old, is it too late to go for CA??

Any other information/ options of other courses available/advice would be great!

Regards

John

John - u should decide your aim...whether u want to do mba or want to do ca or anything else...what is your interest..ask the same question to yourself..

if your answer is CA then yes direct entry is possible for graduate...if your registered with ICAI then i think after 3 and 1/2 years you have to renew your registration...

so for that you have to visit icai.org.

percentage will not be criteria for CA..if you having capabilities to cope with hard work...you having patience then definetely you can do CA..

All the Bst for your Career..

Hi Bhushan

Thanks for your advice!

Before joining my job, I was planning to go for MBA - but I realised that everyone is going for MBA nowadays (all my friends who completed engineering are joining MBA) so this made me doubt the prospects of fututre career with MBA degree - I realise that only by doing MBA from top institutes one has chances of a great career -

During my XIIth and B.com, accounts was a favoured subject for me and I think a career in accounts might be better than 1 in management for me - hence thats why I was contemplating going for CA.

A doubt I have is if I avail exemption from CPT, can I start preparing for IPCC directly (like new scheme) or should I start articleship (like old scheme)

Your help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

John

in my opinion u have to clear 1st group of Ipcc for joining articleship...i am not sure about it...for more detail visit icai.org
