i never attended classes either....i used RL Gupta for dept and branch accounts and company accounts and shukla grewal for partnership, hire purchase and cash flow statements. for the other topics, icai study material is the best. try to get a copy of the compilations too. considering you have a lot of time until exams.....you will be able to cover what is required satisfactorily.

GOOD LUCK!
See the problem is different books are good for some chapters.. One cant Single Out 1 book which is good for all topics.
The following books are Good on Accountancy:
1:R.L Gupta (he has written many books but since you are in pe2 there is a specific book For Pe2 covering the syllabus)
2: Shukla and Grewal Advanced Accounts
3:Jain and Narang Advanced Accountancy ( not easily available but a good book)
4: Maheshwari Advanced Accountancy ( Has lot of mistakes in problems while computation)
I will advise you to solve study material problems and also suggested answers. Also for Chapters like Single Entry Solve ICWA problems they are tougher than CA. You will get those problems in the above books.
Buy Latest Editions only. Also buy books which are specifically written for Pe2.Hence R.L Gupta is a good choice.
For Accounting Theory ensure you cover the study material theory as thats what is asked in the exams. Reference books have too much "irrelevant" theory from exam point of view.
Hope this was helpful
Dear Swati,Before studying any books please solve the problems given in the study materials.Study and solve the problems published in the suggested answers(atleast 6-7 years suggested).
Then,IF YOU HAVE TIME AT YOUR DISPOSAL,refer the book published by Shri Gurukripa learning Institute,Chennai.

Dear Swati, If you are searching of Accopunting books for praticle. then it is good to do PC Tulsian from Tata Mac Graw Hill. The approach of book is dealet only in practicle problems.
Dear Sweta,

For Basic Understanding purpose you can read RL Gupta and Radhaswamy.  Then be thorough with our Institute material.

Jain and Narang is also ok.

All the best
