BIG 4- Article Perks

CA 4737 views 10 replies

Hi, I just gave my IPCC exam in November and am waiting for my result. I hope to clear the exam and do my articleship at one of the big 4s.

So I just some advice from:

Seniors at CCI and Articles working with Big4s; about a certain things like:

1) Work timings

2) Stipend

3) Rankings of the Big4s (or other big firms like GT)

4) Experience wise is it worth it

5) Big 4 v Small/Mediocre firms

6)Perks (I have heard that Big4s give laptops)

7) Leaves allowed

8) Personal Experiences

9) the type of relationships one may expect with: i) the Principal or the manager, ii) other articles

I live in Delhi for your information, any help/advice/information would be kindly solicited. Thanks :)

Any Help from senior CCI members would be highly appreciated!

pls if u hv received any information than told me i am waiting regarding this

Advice would be highly solicited.

BIG 4 IS GOOD TO GET EXPOSURE BUT CANT LEARN EXECPT ONE LINE, IN MIDDLE FIRM YOU CAN LEARN LOT AND YOU CAN LEARN DIFF THINGS IN MIDDLE FIRM, IN BIG4 YOU WILL BE IN ONE FIELD..

1) WORKING TIMINGS CANT SAY DEPEND ON WORK ONLY CAN THING ENTERING TIMING IN BOTH SIDE..

2) STIPEND WILL BE GUD IN BIG4 COMPARING TO MIDDLE FIRM..

3) KPMG, E AND Y, PWC AND DELOITEE..

4) GOOD EXPOSURE BUT CANT LEARN EVERYTHING IN BIG4..

5) SOME FIRMS WILL GIVE....(FIND OUT)

6) (FIND OUT)

WHAT I KNOW JUST WRITTEN HERE, IN MY OPNION MIDDLE FIRM WILL BE BEST OPTION TO LEAR LOT FOR CA PROFESSION,  STIPEND WILL BE GUD IN BIG4 AND WILL NOT GET EXPOSURE IN ALL THE FIELD..

WAIT FOR OTHERS REPLY THEN DECIDE HOW TO GO WITH IT..

BEST OF LUCK

REGARDS

Thank you sir, more replies highly solicited by senior CCI members and Big 4 articles and ex articles.

Im currently doing my articles from one of the Big 4's...Its a very good experience but yes, you won't get exposure in all fields. Because you'll be either in audit of manufacturing companies or in banks, MF's etc. The timings are normally hectic(when i say hectic i mean u'll hardly reach home before 9 or 10 in the night and you have to reach office at sharp 10 or 11-depending on ur timings). You'll ve given time to attend classes in the morning but normally its only in those 4 months that you'll get to study. Generally neither of the Big 4's except Deloitte would give more than 4 months. You will get laptops for sure but thats not a big deal. The stipend will also be higher, but dont join just for this reason because thats not the point of doing articleship...If you're planning to start your own business or something, then its recommended not to join the Big 4. But if you want to work as a salaried employee, then it would be very helpful. regardign the relationship, the peopl are very very friendly and professional, so that's totally worth it.

I'd just like to share one more thing...I just gave my Final CA exam-2nd attempt now..and I did'nt clear. I know many people who were doing a dummy and who cleared because they did classes for all subjects and were studying for 9-10 months...so just think about it..im not regretting that i joined the Big 4, because I want to stay in this industry and though i'll clear maybe in the 3rd attempt or so, but the knowledge i gaines is a lot and will be very helpful.. A fresher like a dummy student would take another 2 years to gain such a knowledge...but money wise I think a dummy and me would get the same in a span of 6 months...so think about it...

Very useful thread. Similar thoughts troubled my mind but now I decided to join a mid-sized firm as I would be able to get exposure to all fields as against the big4 although the kind of exposure that one gets in the big4 is incomparable.

Please answer the question I posted in the following link: /forum/top-5-mid-sized-ca-firms-for-articleship-123263.asp

It will be better to join mid size firm.

big4 is the way if u r serious about a career in the industry
