The best author for the books of CA Final Direct Tax is undoubtedly Vinod Gupta Sir. His modules and Books for Direct Tax are more than enough to help you score an exemption in the CA Final paper. Different people will tell you different things but speaking from my experience I can assure you that no book or compiler will be nearly as helpful as VG Sir. His five modules cover each and every topic of Direct Tax in detail and will give you a deep understanding of the subject.
The main advantage of studying from VG sir is that he has explained everything in his books in a very simple manner and can be easily understood by everyone. His book on Direct Tax contains a proper explanation to every topic and case law which is very important for a CA Finalist. Also, his books include sufficient practical questions that you can understand and practice on your own if you are planning to self-study for the exam. Also, his summary cum revision book is very helpful for practicing the important concepts and practical questions short before the Final exams.
The summary book covers important case laws and tricky questions from the five modules and is very helpful in quick revision of the whole syllabus before the exams.
