it is the best book 4 self study.
Go for Girish Ahuja books. It contains simple language. In very few chapters, some sections are missing in this book, those sections you must refer the institute module. Also do practice manuals of ICAI which are available in ICAI Website.
Regarding Service Tax and VAT it is adivsable to refer only Institute Module for all the theory part (but not girish book). However, practical problems can be done from anywhere. Some of the files are also available in this website. You can do this after completing above. All the best.

personaly speaking singhania was beneficial to me .........i scored 67 in pcc......but many says manoharan is also gud.....u must go through 4m various authored books b4 taking decision...because at d end it depends upon u how u grasp...bol 4 ipcc

Girish Ahuja's Book is for self study but after that never forget do practise from study mat and PM.
